Overview

The classic Jiangnan circuit with two nights inside themed old towns: Suzhou gardens and Shantang Street, West Lake and Hefang Street in Hangzhou, a hanfu afternoon in Xinshi, a night in Wuzhen West, Wuxi by high-speed rail for Nianhua Bay, and Dongfang Salt Lake City before Nanjing’s Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and Laomendong.

Day 01

Arrive Nanjing

Meet on arrival and head into the old city for an evening along the Qinhuai River at the Confucius Temple quarter, then check in.

Day 02

Suzhou

Drive to Suzhou for Hanshan Temple, the Xiangmen section of the city wall and the Couple’s Garden Retreat, one of the classical private gardens. Evening on Shantang Street, the canal-side old street.

Day 03

Hangzhou

Boat on West Lake and a walk along the Su Causeway, then Hefang Street with its Ming and Qing shopfronts. End at the G20 city balcony for the view across the river to the Olympic stadium.

Day 04

Xinshi → Wuzhen West

At Xinshi ancient town, dress in hanfu for a walk through the old lanes, make a lacquer- dyed fan and sit down to tea brewed over a stove. Continue to Wuzhen West Scenic Zone, stay inside the zone and walk the canals after dark.

Day 05

Wuzhen → Wuxi by high-speed rail

A quiet morning in Wuzhen before the high-speed train to Wuxi. Visit the Qingming Bridge canal quarter, then Nianhua Bay, the Zen-themed town, for the Fantian flower fields and the evening tower and lotus light shows.

Day 06

Lake Tai → Dongfang Salt Lake City

Visit the Three Kingdoms film studio and cruise Lake Tai on a replica warship. Drive to Dongfang Salt Lake City, a Taoist-themed town in the hills near Changzhou, for its evening shows and a night walk through the town.

Day 07

Nanjing

Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum with its buggy ride and the plane-tree avenue, the Ming Xiaoling tomb, Yuejiang Tower above the Yangtze, the Laomendong old quarter and the Porcelain Tower site at Dabaoen Temple.

Day 08

Depart Nanjing

Visit the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall if a reservation can be secured (free, real-name booking, limited places); otherwise Xuanwu Lake. Transfer to the airport.
